8 Month old Jake

Standard

jake

Fits of laughter, squealing with delight, rolling from here to there and everywhere.  Cheerios, puffs, and water in your sippy.  Pulling hair, giving kisses, snuggling in tight.  Pulling on your socks, chewing on your socks and waving hello…sort of.

jake4

Speaking of chewing on–is there a teether around? You usually have one! Spitting up (still!), waking up (still! constantly!), reaching up (that’s a new one).  Screeching for what you want, learning new things, and trying to crawl (not quite there yet, buddy!).  Open mouth kisses, snorting with excitement and an entirely too long bout of bronchitis.

jake5

First Easter basket, first Easter outfit (Daddy picked it out for you), and first Easter egg hunt.  A visit to the barn, a visit with the horses, and your first french fry EVER!!!  Teeny tiny fly away hairs, a scrunched up little nose and still the same old two baby teeth.

jake3

Baby blue eyes, somewhat reddish hair, cute chubby cheeks and pulling us in close.  Kicking your legs with excitement, tickling your neck (and hearing the laughter it brings!), smacking your lips together for fun.  The look of recognition, eyes searching for the voice and a smile that goes on for days…..

jake6

The joy you bring, the love you share, the hearts that you fill and the innocence of it all.

 We are blessed.

Happy 8 months, sweet babe.  I love you more than you could ever know.

Love always,

Mommy

7 Month Old Jake

Can you believe it, buddy? How can it be that 7 months have gone by since I first held you in my arms? I’ll never understand how months seem like minutes when it comes to life with you and your sister. Although time is moving entirely too fast, in many ways it seems like life has always been this way. It feels like you have always been a part of my life–always there, always smiling, always willing to grab my hair and pull me in close for a slobbery gummy kiss.  It feels like we have known each other forever.  In some ways, I guess we have.  That is the beauty and blessing of creating life…we will always be apart of each other no matter what happens.  I love you, Jake.

jake17

Ok, enough sap (sorry, sometimes when I get started it’s hard to stop!), let’s get to the fun and exciting things that happened this month!

You have TWO teeth now! They popped up shortly after you turned six months old and man, you had a rough time with each of them.  Sleepless nights (more than usual), runny nose, irritability and incessant chewing on anything and everything were all indicators that we knew meant you must be working on some teeth.  And we were right! They popped up within days of each other.  Now I giggle a little when you give a big gummy grin because your first tooth is much taller than your second tooth.  I’m sure they will even out soon, but until then I will enjoy your perfectly mismatched teeth and the smiles that they bring to others.

jake2

Sitting up is your thing! It’s awesome and you love it.  You are SO proud that you can sit anywhere and every where your big sister can.  That is, until you don’t want to sit up any more and then you just quietly decide to face plant yourself into the floor like it’s no big deal.  Sitting’s fun…until it’s not 🙂 And even then I love your spunk and your ability to know what you want when you want it! Life is good with you around, my little friend.

jake13

You prefer certain toys now.  You love your Mickey and your Sophie Giraffe and your car keys.  Pulling your sisters hair is always a favorite past time of yours as well.  I think the pulling is just an unfortunate consequence of you just wanting to touch her all the time.  If she is near, you reach for her and squeal for her.  You try to pull her close to you and gave your first semi-wave to her this month.  There’s no doubt in my mind that she is your hero.  She should be.  She loves you so much too, Jake Man.

jake14

I love watching you sleep with your hands tucked behind your head.  I love how your face lights up when Daddy comes home from work.  I love how you snuggle in close when it’s time for bed and how your breathing slows as you relax and drift off to sleep… You smile when you’re happy, cry when you’re sad, and laugh when you are amused. All these things–these little tiny things that make up who you are in this moment I hope I will remember as the years go by.  I hope I will remember how the rolls on your legs looked or how your delicate little hand would rest itself on your leg.  I hope I remember your pouty face and your happy face and every face in between.  I hope I can remember all of you all of the time.  Maybe some day this blog will take me back 🙂 Back to the “good old days” because I’m pretty confident that these are it….

jake15

You are a gift, little Jake.  I am so thankful and blessed that I was chosen to be your mommy.  Thank you for being the person I didn’t even know I needed.  You have taught me so much already and I love you more than words could ever say.

Love always,

Mommy

5 Month Old Jake

jake

Jake Man, are you really 5 months old already?! I can hardly believe it!  You are a happy little guy who is quite content to be held and loved on as much as any baby I’ve ever been around.  When you make eye contact with others your face immediately lights up with a smile.  You shriek when we tickle you and are mesmerized by the pictures in books we read to you.  You love giving great big slobbery kisses and you even reached for your Daddy for the first time this month! If Rachel isn’t close by, you can be found bobbling your little head around as you look for her!

IMG_7406

Your toes and your feet are your favorite toys.  When you get bored, you just pull your legs up and start playing with your toes.  It’s amazing that for being so little you already can entertain yourself!  If there was one word to describe you, “patient” would be one of my top three choices for you.  Your fingers are constantly in your mouth these days and I am convinced that with as much drool as you’ve been having lately, you are bound to be getting teeth soon! I pray that is an easy process for you…

These days you spend much of your time on the floor trying to roll over onto your belly! I know any day now you will get it, as you make it 3/4 of the way over and then roll back.  Rachel, Daddy and I are rooting for you, buddy! We know you can do it! 🙂

IMG_7553

This month you visited Ice Fest and had your first trip in the Baby Bjorn carrier with you facing out! You loved it and made sure that you didn’t miss a thing! This month you also started real baby food! We have learned that you LOVE apples and bananas and that you couldn’t care less for sweet potatoes.  In fact, when we try to feed them to you, you press your lips together (sometimes I swear that you glued them shut somehow!) so that we can’t get any little bit in to you.

IMG_7559

You are still on your own wild-man sleep schedule…and who knows when that will change.  For now, I will just take the extra snuggles and quiet time alone with you in the middle of the night and early morning hours until they slowly fade away. I just keep reminding myself how quickly it all changes and that one day you’ll sleep through the night (or even just a few hours at a time).  But until then, I’ll be there for you….just like always.

Happy Snowy Jake Day!

Love you to the moon and back,

Mommy

Happy New Year!

Standard

Happy New Year! 2012 was, in many ways, the best year of my life. We spent most of the year getting to know our sweet little babe and growing together as a family.  My daughter and my husband are true blessings to me and I hope they know how much they are loved.  I can not imagine life without them!  I am excited for what the future holds for us and have no doubt that many more great things are in store for our family in 2013.

My New Year’s resolution is to focus on what is important and meaningful.  Life is about loving others and being good to those around you.  Too often we can get bogged down by the small things that, in the grand scheme of life, don’t really matter.  Focus on what matters…family, friends and love. Don’t sweat the small stuff!  🙂

Enjoy some of my favorite pictures from the past year.  When I think back on 2012, these are my “happy thoughts.” 🙂 Sorry it is a bit long, I had a hard time choosing only a few happy times!  Guess it’s not a bad problem to have.  Happy New Year, friends!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Standard

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! It is the last of the “first” holidays for Rachel, and with that comes a bit of nostalgia and sentimental sappiness that I seem to get every so often when I realize that my girl is growing up! All in all, Thanksgiving was a great day for us. This year our family has a lot to be thankful for, and a lot of it has to do with our little girl! She has brought us so much happiness and we are thankful for her every day. All the sweet giggles, smiles, belly laughs and kisses from our babe bring us such a sense of peace and contentment, it’s a wonder that life ever felt complete before!

I have been keeping a log of things that I am thankful for during the month of November. While I try to maintain a thankful attitude throughout the year, sometimes we can get so busy with life that we forget to sit and really reflect on things. This November I tried to find one thing every day I was thankful for. Some days were easy, some days were a challenge. Here’s what I have so far 🙂 Sorry if this is a little long…

November 2012 “Attitude of Gratitude” Challenge

November 1st- Today I am thankful for having heat in our house! I am also thankful for a speedy plumber who came to our rescue when our furnace decided to stop working!

November 2nd- I am thankful for our special breakfast spot and the memories Rachel and I are making there each week!

November 3rd- I am thankful for having the opportunity to catch up with good friends to remind me what life is really about!

November 4th- Thinking of where I am in life today and where I was not so long ago, I am thankful for the clarity and acceptance only faith can provide. Psalms 27:13

November 5th- Grades are in! Wahoo! Today I am thankful for officially surviving the first marking period of the school year. Next up- to get all of the report cards stuffed and sent home with students 🙂

November 6th- Today (and many days) I am thankful for supportive classroom parents! It is such a blessing to have such great families to work with. I have been very lucky this year and every other year to have wonderful people helping to create a true partnership in their child’s education process. We are in this together! 🙂 Afterall, a parent is a child’s first and most important teacher! So, a big THANK YOU to any parents reading this (past or present) and know that when I think back on my classes and reminisce, I think of you too! 🙂 You are all wonderful!

November 7th- Today I am thankful for the two lovely ladies who watch my littlest lady while I am at work! It is comforting to know that Rachel is in good hands while I am away from her. If it can’t be me, I’m glad that it is them! 🙂 I know she is very well loved and very well taken care of. That’s all I can ask for 🙂

November 8th- Today I am thankful for the advancement of modern medicine. Putting my girl on this antibiotic for her ear infection has made her seem more like herself! I am sure she is more comfortable too!

November 9th- I am thankful for a three day weekend after a stressful week!

November 10th- Today I am especially thankful for my husband. He doesn’t mind if the laundry isn’t done, never says a word when the house looks disastrous (much like any house with a curious 11 month old in it!) and could care less what I make for dinner. He loves to play with our girl, go for walks as a family and lets me sleep-in most weekends. He is quick to overlook my faults and just as quick to offer encouragement when I need it the most. I love him and am so thankful to have him by my side. Thanks for working so hard for us Tim, you are the best!! ♥ Solomon 3:4

November 11th- I am thankful for all the veterans of our country!

November 12th- I’m thankful for a happy and healthy baby!

November 13th- I am thankful for my grandfather! My “PopPop” has always given me advice when I asked for it, guidance when I needed it and shown me love unconditionally! He is fun to talk to, always willing to help when needed and values the importance of spending time with and loving others. He has accepted and loved my husband since day one and is so sweet with my baby girl. He is a great role model and has achieved so much in the 83 years he has been on this earth! The world is a better place because of him! I love my PopPop and don’t know where I would be without him!

November 14th- I am thankful for the few extra hours I got to spend with my baby girl today! 🙂 Life is good!

November 15th- I am thankful for my dog! We have had some fun times together and some sad times together, but no matter what, he is always by my side! He dances around the house with me when I’m happy, and lets me cry on him when I’m sad. He’ll come running inside if you even mumble the word “cheese” within earshot and he loves to play fetch in the yard. He might not be my “baby” like he used to be, but he’s still the best dog I’ve ever had! For his loyalty and companionship, I am very thankful.

November 16th- Today I am thankful for surprise breakfast dates with my little lady and some wonderful coworkers!

November 17th- I’m thankful to be able to spend the day celebrating with Courtney and Josh as they start their new life together as Mr. & Mrs.! Congratulations to you both!!

November 18th- I am thankful for fleece pants and fuzzy socks. Doesn’t get much better than that… 🙂

November 19th- I am thankful that my husband has no problem jumping in to help out when things start getting a little hectic!

November 20th-I am thankful for my brothers and my little sister! Life’s not always easy, but it’s nice knowing that there are people out there who know your whole story. I love you all and want you to know that I look back on our times growing up together with fondness….except for that time you guys stuffed me in the toy box 🙂 And that one Good Friday episode. But other than that, fondness for sure.

November 21st- I am thankful for my best friend! She always knows what to say to make me feel better and knows when to just let me vent when I need it most. She always puts other people first and will not hesitate to swoop in and save the day just because she can! She has the kindest, most sincere heart of anyone I know. She doesn’t mind if we go weeks without talking, and always makes time to come visit or go on random last minute trips! We may be very different (just take a look at the inside of her car and you’ll see what I mean 😉 …but all in all, we really aren’t! Love ya Kricket! And I am so thankful to have you in my life! Our friendship has come a loooong way since our first class together freshman year!

November 22nd- I am thankful for the most precious gift I have ever been given–Rachel! She has brought so much happiness into our lives throughout the past year and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her as she grows older! 🙂 ♥

All I need in life is what I already have–a loving husband, a sweet sweet daughter and our love that makes our house a home. For all this and more, I am very thankful. What are you thankful for? Happy Thanksgiving!

Welcome Fall!

Standard

Fall is here! Mums, candy corn,  and pumpkin scented candles are in abundance at our house this time of year.  Summer is by far my favorite season, but I can not help be lured into the season of fall and all the coziness that it has to offer.  There is something about putting on that favorite cozy sweater and sipping on some hot apple cider that is just so….beautifully simple.

Rach is getting so big these days and she is definitely growing into her own little person! The battle of the headbands has begun, I had hoped we would be able to avoid it by all of my diligent efforts to make it seem customary for her to wear one.   …We’ll see who prevails in the end 🙂

This weekend we are going to the pumpkin patch with a very good friend of mine and her husband and also their adorable daughter who just happens to be Rachel’s best friend! 😉  I can’t wait to soak in all the sweetness that Fall has to offer and spend some quality time with a dear friend and our girls!

Happy Fall!!

Girls Week!

Standard

While my husband has been away on a golfing trip the past few days, Rachel and I have been having some fun hanging out just the two of us.  Unfortunately she get her first cold a little over a week ago (yes, I was a mess that my baby was sick for the first time!) which gave way to an ear infection during the middle of last week and she has been recovering ever since.  This ear infection business really put a damper on our girls week plans.

Excited for a girls week!

Although her sickness kept us from having “fun” in the traditional sense of the word, I know I had a great time getting snuggled and slept on at the end of each day.  Having a baby fall asleep on your chest is the best way I can think of to end the day! If only she didn’t have to be sick for it to happen…but I’ll take it when I can get it! 🙂 So for our girls week we spent the week playing and snuggling and learning how to blow her nose.  We’re still working on that last part!

Please keep little Rach in your thoughts as she fights off the last bit of this cold and ear infection!
