2016: Patience and Trust

2016–Wow! What a year! In some ways it’s hard to believe that an entire year has gone by,  but in other ways it seems like this year might have just been the longest year of my life. 2016 was a great year for our family, but at the same time it was also a very tough year for us emotionally, mentally and spiritually for various reasons.  Your Dad and I tried to keep things in perspective when times got tough, and worked hard to rely on each other even when we felt pulled towards the opposite.

It’s easy to feel helpless when it seems like one thing after another keeps happening to bring you down–like things pile up and you just don’t know how to stop it. Everyone’s been there, every one goes through a season like this in their lives.  Don’t ever think that bad things or tough times only ever fall on you–it happens to everyone.  The way you react to those times says a lot more about your character than how you act when things are smooth sailing.

When it seems like things are getting too hard, take a look around and realize that life is good.  The kids are healthy and happy.  Our home is peaceful and steady.  We have food, clothing and good friends.  In the whole scheme of life, we have it pretty good.  Even if life is hard right now, I know that it won’t be like this forever.  Yes, even through the hard times, life is still good.  God is still good and faithful, even in time when it seems like He’s not.  Please know that, like *really* know that.

This past year was an exercise in trust for our family.  Life isn’t always butterflies and rainbows, little ones.  But it is *always* good and we are always here for a purpose.  Thanks for always keeping things in perspective for us.  For 2017 we are holding on to the hope that the future brings goodness and happiness for our family, our community, our country and our world.  IMG_3849

Happy New Year, my sweet babes! I love you to the moon and back!

Love always,

P.S. I hope you enjoy looking back on some of my favorite photos from this year.  If it seems like many of them are from the summer, it’s because they are.  Summer is my jam.

Looking Back and Moving Forward

2013, what a year you were! Filled with wonderful moments of “firsts” for our sweet girl and littlest guy.  First breaths, first steps, first smiles, a first “I love you too, Mommy” that brought tears to my eyes (and that can still give me goosebumps!).  This year, for many reasons, was the best year of my life.  My children, my husband–our family, is the most precious gift I could ever have been given. My New Year’s resolution was to “not sweat the small stuff,” and I think I did an O.K. job with that.  It’s hard to maintain that attitude when you bring a new little life into this world–the responsibility I feel every moment of the day for baby Jake and also Rachel can sometimes be overwhelming.

We welcomed this sweet babe into our family in 2013.

One of my favorite pictures from 2013–Rachel realizing she has a shadow!

For 2014, I am planning to stay in the moment and focus more on quality time spent with my children. I hope to use my phone less and snuggle more.  I plan to spend less time on Facebook and Twitter and read to and play with my babes more instead.  Afterall, they are what matters most to me.  How I spend my time speaks volumes to them for what I find most important.  I want them to know it’s them, and it will always be them.

I am grateful for all that 2013 brought us and am also looking forward to 2014 and all that is to come. Life is good, friends. PTL.

Here’s a look back at 2013, our best year yet!

Happy New Year, everyone!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! 2012 was, in many ways, the best year of my life. We spent most of the year getting to know our sweet little babe and growing together as a family.  My daughter and my husband are true blessings to me and I hope they know how much they are loved.  I can not imagine life without them!  I am excited for what the future holds for us and have no doubt that many more great things are in store for our family in 2013.

My New Year’s resolution is to focus on what is important and meaningful.  Life is about loving others and being good to those around you.  Too often we can get bogged down by the small things that, in the grand scheme of life, don’t really matter.  Focus on what matters…family, friends and love. Don’t sweat the small stuff!  🙂

Enjoy some of my favorite pictures from the past year.  When I think back on 2012, these are my “happy thoughts.” 🙂 Sorry it is a bit long, I had a hard time choosing only a few happy times!  Guess it’s not a bad problem to have.  Happy New Year, friends!
